The Thanksgiving celebration in America began as a day of giving thanks at the end of the fall harvest.  Giving thanks for the abundance of food the harvest would provide over the long winter.

Today I will give thanks with my family, not for the abundance of the harvest, but for the many blessings we have.  Our Thanksgiving table will be filled with the traditional turkey and all the trimmings.  None of us will walk away hungry.

There are over 50 million Americans who won’t know the abundance of the Thanksgiving meal, those who struggle every day to put food on their table.  Organizations like Share our Strength are working hard to put an end to this struggle.  On this holiday, please consider taking a moment to make a donation to Share our Strength or to your local food pantry.

Happy Thanksgiving.
