vacation views

One of the best things about coming home from vacation is that first night sleeping in your own bed. The hardest things include time zone adjustment, getting back into some kind of routine, sorting through all of the pictures that were taken and losing the pounds that were gained.

Mike and I spent the last week in northern California where we visited family and did some sight-seeing.  It’s been a lot of years since I lived in the south bay but I still remembered where things were and was able to show Mike where I used to live and work.  By the time we got to the last two days of vacation we were both tired of being in the car and we spent one whole afternoon reading and looking out at the bay.  That was the restful part of the seven days.  The rest of the week included, among other things….

…two of the best dinners ever including a home-made mushroom lasagna made in individual ramekins (I’m hoping to get the recipe) and a dinner at State Bird Provisions, recently named the best new restaurant in the United States by Bon Appetit Magazine, that ended with this chocolate-almond-lavender & fig ice cream sandwich

…a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge

…a 3-1/2 hour drive into Yosemite National Park that for the last hour or so was up and over the mountains on two lane winding mountain roads with no guard rails but gives you this beautiful tunnel view of the valley with El Capitan on one side and Half Dome on the other

…standing at the top of Glacier Point at 7200 feet, looking over the Yosemite Valley 3200 feet below

…a hike through the Yosemite giant sequoias.  This tree is known as The Faithful Couple and you can only realize the true size of the trunk by looking at it in comparison to the wooden fence that surrounds it.  That fence top was about waist height on me.

…a GPS route that included another two lane mountain road that wouldn’t be considered the “popular” or “common” route from Yosemite to Monterey but we eventually got there

…tour of the AT&T ballpark where the San Francisco Giants play

What a week we had.  Now I have to lose the vacation weight I gained.
